FIFA 18 fans have started a petition to try and get EA Sports to change the Weekend League.
Many believe the current format, which gives gamers just two days to play as many matches as possible, is too limited.
Currently, Weekend League requires players to play around 40 high-stress competitive games each weekend – equivalent to around 12 hours of gaming.
Fans are asking the Vancouver-based developer to extend the period by two days – making the total ‘Weekend League’ four days long.
One gamer wrote on the FIFA reddit: “It makes no sense to not give us this extra day, it will allow many more people time to play games and enjoy the mode.
“As it currently stands it is not healthy to put the tight time and amount of pressure on young people. FIFA is an addictive game.
“I have multiple friends who just don’t have time to play every weekend and would love the extra evening to put in a few more games even if it just means they make silver one.
“An important thing I saw mentioned is the invention of Squad Battles.
“Anyone wanting to finish well needs to play a lot of matches of that in a weekend, just adding further congestion with Weekend League.”
The petition has already had more thousands of votes – making it more likely that EA will see it.
Some fans, though, think extending the period could cause more of a problem – especially with regards to online matchmaking.
One wrote: “Do you see how some people are getting matched with way better players for example? Extend WL to 7 days with the current system and it would be even worse.”
He continued: “To have a seven-day mode they’d need some sort of accurate ladder rankings, otherwise matchmaking would be f***ed and it would take an hour for top 100 players to find an equally-skill-levelled opponent.”
Time will tell whether EA Sports does something about it – but cramming such a massive amount of gaming into such a small time frame seems pretty unhealthy to us.
Christian Eriksen or Philippe Coutinho? Why not both in this weekend’s big game?
