NBA 2K18’s ‘MyCareer’ mode could be even better than FIFA 18’s The Journey

Developers 2K have been hard at work to create their best story yet

Blink and you probably missed it, but NBA 2K18 have revealed The Prelude will return for the upcoming game’s release.

For those who are unfamiliar with the 2K series, The Prelude forms part of the game’s ‘The Journey’ mode – which sees players rise through the ranks from rookie to pro.

NOT PICKED YOUR FANTASY FOOTBALL TEAM YET? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

The “demo” version will be a free download, as it was for last year’s edition, and will see you take on the early stages of your MyPlayer’s career.

During a video released by 2K yesterday entitled The Art Behind 2K18, there was a quick flash showing The Prelude’s return – a WEEK before the full game’s release.

Last year 2K gave no inkling as to what The Prelude would entail – and the same is true of this year’s edition.

NBA2K17’s MyCareer was arguably better put together than FIFA 17’s The Journey

However, it’s fair to expect it will be along the same lines as 2K17.

A year ago, gamers were given the chance to create their MyPlayer – for MyPark and MyCareer modes – which including using an app to scan your face into the game.

Following that, you could choose your MyPlayer’s position and playing style – for instance a playmaking point guard or sharpshooting small forward, which defined the kind of player you would be during your NBA career.

You were then able to play the early portion of your MyPlayer’s career – including college and a few games for Team USA – while being immersed in the first few “movie-style” cut-scenes of your star’s story.

After working your way through college and seeing your draft stock – hopefully – rise, you are dropped into the NBA Draft…

…and cut to black.

In 2K17, the draft itself became the first part of your MyCareer in the full-game version – leaving gamers waiting a full week to find out just where they were drafted and who they would represent in the NBA.

It’s widely anticipated this year’s release will follow a similar format.

NBA 2K have always been known to go big on the MyCareer story mode – with Spike Lee even involved in creating a script and storyline for the major release of NBA 2K16.

Think The Journey… but bigger.

NBA 2K18’s The Prelude will be available for download on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on September 8.

FIFA 18 arrives a few weeks later on September 29.
