Admit it. You were a bit disappointed with the FIFA 18 cover, weren’t you?
Sure, it featured Cristiano Ronaldo, but he’s just standing there, holding a ball with the FIFA 18 text layered clumsily layered over the top of it.
Sort it out, EA.
Konami, though, has created a thing of beauty for PES 2018 fans in Brazil – their very own cover featuring man-of-the-moment Philippe Coutinho.
NOT PICKED YOUR FANTASY FOOTBALL TEAM YET? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
The cover, which shows the Brazilian taking a free kick, is vibrant, colourful and exactly the kind of thing we’d had hoped to see another certain publisher this year.
It’s arguably better than the version we’ll get in the Europe – which features Luis Suarez doing his trademark celebration.
Not that it’s been a totally smooth ride for the Konami marketing team in recent weeks.
Neymar, who features on the ‘Barcelona Edition’ of the game, jumped ship and joined PSG last week.
The Japanese publisher now faces an uphill task of trying to find a replacement after the Brazilian completed the £198million move to France.
Despite the move, though, Konami still promoted their game using the now-out-of-date cover, which led to fans tearing them to shreds.
FIFA 18 developer EA, meanwhile, capitalised on their PSG license to reveal Neymar in PSG colours using the in-game Frostbite engine – posting a short trailer of him in action on Twitter.
In one of the more bizarre marketing decision of recent years, Konami revealed Usain Bolt will be playable for those who pre-order PES 2018.
The sprinter, who retired after the 100m dash at the London World Athletics Championships last week, will be the fastest player in the game.
PES 2018 launches on September 14 in Europe, while FIFA 18 hits shelves on September 29.
