FIFA 18 fans will be able to play with three versions of their favourite players, in an audacious move from developer EA.
FUT ICONS Stories will see every Icon receive a trio of cards that reflect different stages of their careers – the beginning, their prime and the tail-end.
All cards have different stats and appearances.
It comes after EA came under fire for revealing a Thierry Henry Icons card with a score that many fans thought was too low.
Hundreds of gamers took to Twitter to express their disappointment regarding Frenchman’s less-than-spectacular overall score of 90.
But it was all part of the plan for EA, who last night unveiled the Henry’s two other cards – one of which is a much more representative 93-rated beast.
The top-of-the-line Henry card includes 94 pace, 91 shooting and 83 passing – making the Arsenal legend one of the deadliest attackers in the game.
FUT ICONS Stories will see legends such as Pele, Ronaldo Nazario, Lev Yashin and Diego Maradona all have three different cards – which will be available in Ultimate Team.
The standout card is a 98-rated Pele – which eclipses Cristiano Ronaldo’s 94-rated FUT card to become the highest scoring card on the game.
Other new features revealed last night include:
- Squad Battles – Compete against other squads from the FUT community, move up the leaderboard and tackle the squads of celebrities and pro FIFA players
- Champions Channel – Watch full match replays from the pros
- Objectives – Finish daily and weekly goals, from squad management tasks to in-game challenges to score great FUT rewards
Until now, bar the FIFA 18 cover announcement in June, little has been revealed about the upcoming game – which is due to hit shelves on September 29.
EA is, however, also planning a huge Ultimate Team showcase at this month’s Gamescom expo in Cologne.
“Ordinary we don’t announce much about Ultimate Team around this time because we’re in the run up to Gamescom – that’s our big FUT showcase,” EA producer Matt Prior said.
Gamescom is Europe’s largest gaming convention and takes place between August 22-26.
