We used FIFA 17 to predict the outcome of the Manchester Derby

Can Pep Guardiola's City hold off Jose Mourinho's Manchester United?

Manchester City host their rivals at the Etihad this evening – but who will come out on top?

We simmed a match on Legendary difficulty to see how Manchester United fared against Pep Guardiola’s men.

Can Jose Mourinho bag the win – despite being without key man Zlatan Ibrahimovic?

Here’s what happened.

1min: City kick off and already David Silva is pulling the strings. They’ve obviously been told to keep the ball away from United, and aren’t afraid of slowing things down
6: Raheem Sterling is looking lively down the flanks – worryingly United still haven’t touched the ball. Mourinho’s not best pleased
9: First real chance comes for City. Sterling goes on a mazy run and picks out Sergio Aguero with a neat cross – but it’s cleared away by Daley Blind

10: Ergh, horrible mistake by Eric Bailly who loses the ball close to the edge of the box. It’s picked up by Silva who shoots – but it sails well wide of David de Gea’s goal. Pep knows a chance has been missed there
12: Finally Marcus Rashford goes on a run. He spots Blind, who’s done well to create an overlap. Cross comes in, but no one’s home
17: Another United attack, this time led by Anthony Martial. He feeds Rashford who hoofs it into the stands. Mourinho’s so angry he begins glitching on the touchline
26: **GOAL!** Sterling skips past a few defenders and picks out Kevin De Bruyne with a lovely lofted pass. The Belgian hammers it past De Gea – who had literally no chance of saving it. First blood City

34: Sterling on the rampage again. He feeds Aguero who finds space, but knocks it just wide. United are on the back foot
45: Anthony Martial needs to get in the game more – him and Rashford look the most dangerous with the ball. Ref blows for half time – I’m surprised it’s not 2-0.

Half time

47: Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who’s been unusually quiet, feeds Martial who tries to get the ball to Rashford. Willy Caballero reads the danger well
64: De Bruyne charges into the box and is taken down by Blind. The Belgian’s calling for a penalty, but the ref says plays on
68: Mkhitaryan finds space on the edge of the box but shoots well over the bar. Chance missed

78: Yaya Touré breaks through and surges up from midfield – but he’s shut down by De Gea – who pulls off a fantastic one-on-one save
84: United have been utterly outplayed and outsmarted here – with Aguero again finding it too easy to break through. He feeds De Bruyne who glitches and misses the ball – this is FIFA after all
90: That’s it, folks – City have dominated here. I swear there had been more shots than the stats suggest. Sterling is the man of the match for that first-half performance alone – he was pure fire

So, there you have it.

According to FIFA 17, City will win 1-0 – with De Bruyne the goalscorer.

Mourinho, you have been warned.
