In FIFA 18, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are widely regarded as the best players on the game.
But look a little closer and the former has some serious competition – from a player who you may not have even heard of.
Enter 30-year-old Alejandro Darío Gómez, who for the past couple of seasons has been tearing it up for Italian Club Atalanta.
The Argentinian, known by locals as Papu, is known for his technical skills, powerful long-range goals and a relentless workrate.
While Messi went on to become an international star, Gómez fell out of the national team frame after U20 level – having been part of the squad that won the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada, alongside Sergio Aguero and Angel di Maria.

That didn’t stop Papu to becoming one of the unsung heroes of Serie A.
Since joining Atalanta in 2014, he steered a poor attacking side to a respectable 13th place last season and helped them to avoid relegation the season before.
He was so good that the likes of AC Milan and Inter Milan were trying to get him on their books, which pushed the Bergamese side to extend his contract until June 2020.
So, what’s he like on FIFA?
Gomez scores higher than Messi in acceleration, agility, jumping, stamina and crossing, Futwiz data reveals.
But it doesn’t stop there.
The Argentine has four star skills and a four-star weak foot. In fact, in nearly every attribute, there’s very little between the two.
The best part is that Gomez costs a fraction of what Messi’s going for. He costs between 3,000 – 5,000 coins, compared to Messi’s enormous 700,000-900,000 price range.
Best snap him up before too many people clock on!
