Zinedine Zindane, Ronaldinho, Gianluigi Buffon.
We’ve seen some incredible football legends grace FIFA over the years – long before Lionel Messi and co made their mark on the game.
We go through the entire series and picked out the highest-rated players in each position – creating the ultimate, Ultimate Team.
And, believe it or not, just two of today’s players make the grade.
All these are based on “normal” cards – not IFs, Specials, ICONS or anything like that.
Let’s kick off with a true legend.
Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Buffon (FIFA 2005)
Gianluigi Buffon may not be the best keeper in FIFA 17, but back in FIFA 2005 the Italian had a mighty 97 rating – fending off the likes of Oliver Khan to be the best shot-stopper ever in the series.
Left-back: Roberto Carlos (FIFA 2002)
Brazilian icon Roberto Carlos was known for his lively runs down the flank and 100mph free kicks.
In FIFA 2002, Carlos was awarded a huge 94 rating – making him an absolute beast.
Centre-back: Alessando Nesta (FIFA 2005)
FIFA 05 was full of centre-backs who had 90 ratings, but Nesta was cream of the crop with 94.
Centre-back: Fernando Hierro (FIFA 2002)
The Real Madrid captain may have been past his peak by 2002, but still managed a stunning 94 rating.
Right-back: Lilian Thuram (FIFA 2005)
Thuram is the greatest ever right back to feature in FIFA, hitting a series high of 92 in FIFA 2005.
Central midfield: Ronaldinho (FIFA 2006)
The Brazilian superstar has always been incredible in FIFA, but 2006 saw him peak with an overall rating of 95.
Central midfield: Zinedine Zidane (FIFA 2005)
In 2005, Zizou’s form for Real Madrid saw him rewarded with an incredible 96 FIFA rating.
Left wing: Cristiano Ronaldo (FIFA 2017)
The only player in recent years to make it into the starting eleven, Cristiano Ronaldo sneaks into the team with a rating of 94.
Right wing: Luis Figo (FIFA 2002)
Luis Figo is the series’ best winger, with a staggering 97 rating in FIFA 2002.
Striker: Thierry Henry (FIFA 2005)
More than 60 stars had ratings around the 90 mark in FIFA 2005, but Thierry Henry topped the list with a rating of 97.
Striker: Ronaldo (FIFA 2004)
The Brazilian sharpshooter was at his peak in FIFA 04 with an incredible rating of 98.
What a team.
