Now THIS is a turn up for the books!
At the time of writing, Che Adams (£2.9m) is Dream Team’s outright best performer.
The Southampton forward has 31 points to his name, two more than the impressive Gabriel Jesus (£5.3m) who has burst out of blocks with two goals and three assists in his first three outings.
What’s truly remarkable about Adams’ sudden ascent to the mountain top is that he blanked against Leeds in Game Week 2 and didn’t even touch grass in Game Week 1.
All 31 of the Scotland international’s points were claimed in Game Week 3 – even at this early stage it’s a contender for biggest haul of the season.
To kick things off, he fulfilled the role of super sub for Ralph Hassenhuttl at the King Power on Saturday, coming off the bench in the 59th minute with Leicester 1-0 up to score twice and inspire Saints to their first victory of the season.
For his match-winning effort, Adams claimed the Star Man award to bank 18 points at the Foxes’ expense.
Then on Tuesday night, the 26-year-old was named in the starting line-up to face Cambridge in the Carabao Cup second round.
Unleashed upon League One opposition, Adams bagged another brace before he was with withdrawn in the 66th minute as Hassenhuttl’s progressed comfortably with a 3-0 win.
And so Southampton’s No10 bagged a further 13 points for his troubles.
His Game Week 3 performance breaks down to four goals and 31 points from just 97 minutes of playing time – incredible!
In fact, Dream Team’s highest points scorer has only accumulated 187 minutes so far this campaign.
For comparison, runner-up Jesus has racked up 257 minutes in the league alone – Arsenal don’t enter the Carabao Cup until the third round.
What makes this series of events even more notable is that Adams is the lowest-owned, non-injured asset in his position out of those who were included in the player list from the start.
His ownership of 0.1% means only the smallest minority of gaffers have benefited from Adams’ exploits this Game Week.
Truth be told, it’s understandable why so few managers are backing the ex-Birmingham forward.
Hassenhuttl’s team selections indicate that Adams has been third in the strikers’ pecking order at St Mary’s.
While his consecutive braces may have provoked a revaluation from his manager, Dream Team bosses have to consider how likely he is to extend his purple patch.
Southampton host a Man United side reenergised by a win over Liverpool this coming Saturday before welcoming Chelsea to the south coast in midweek.
More broadly, Adams’ heroic Game Week serves as a reminder of the importance attached to the additional competitions outside the bread and butter of the Premier League.
Remember, Dream Team assets are eligible to score points in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, Europa Conference League, Europa League and Champions League too.
