Which England players will rack up points at Euro 2020? How do you solve the midfield riddle?

Gareth Southgate is expected to leave his Euro 2020 squad announcement later than most his peers but Dream Team Euros gaffers are already mulling over England’s potential this summer.

The Three Lions are technically favourites to lift the trophy come July 11th, a fact that is reflective of their attacking depth and a considerable degree of home advantage.

While plenty of fans would say France (and possibly Belgium) are more likely to emerge from the tournament victorious, there’s no doubt England have the assets to go deep.

More importantly, they could provide a reliable stream of Dream Team Euros points – but which players exactly?

Friend or foe?

Friend or foe?

First and foremost, Harry Kane.

The Golden Boot winner at the last major international tournament boasts a record of 34 goals in 53 caps and is among the favourites to top the scoring charts at Euro 2020.

England’s captain is the outright top scorer in our Season game and, depending on Sunday’s games, may well finish the season as the Premier League’s top scorer and top assist provider.

If Southgate’s side are to progress to the latter stages then surely Kane will be a primary contributor?

The main man will set you back £7.0m – only Kylian Mbappe (£7.5m) is more costly – but will definitely be among the most-popular players once we’re underway.

England’s defence is rather shallow when compared to their attacking depth but that’s not to say you should ignore the spoilers at the back.

Harry Maguire’s fitness is real concern but you’d expect him and John Stones to play every minute of Euro 2020.

Croatia first up will be a test of their resoluteness but the potential for back-to-back clean sheets against Scotland and Czech Republic should produce relatively high ownerships for the first-choice centre-backs.

Both Stones and Maguire are priced at £4.0m.

Frustratingly, the full-back situation is not clear as Ben Chilwell and Luke Shaw battle it out for left-back duties while the list of viable right-backs is longer than you’d care to read.

It feels as if Kyle Walker holds pole position at the moment but you might want to wait until more evidence has emerged before committing to the Man City man.

England’s midfield is heavily pregnant with points… it’s just hard to identify the specific players to select.

Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount – the last thing you want to do is pick a benchwarmer among that array of talent.

The former’s form may have dropped off in the second half of the season but he remains the most prolific goalscorer of the lot in the last few years.

Sterling has scored ten goals in his last 14 games for his country.

Grealish, Sancho and Foden are all tremendously exciting options but it’s difficult to know to what extent Southgate plans to use them, if at all.

Conversely, Mount seems well-positioned to start England’s first game at Euro 2020, either as the most attack-minded of a midfield three or the right-hand prong of a front three.

England’s head coach is a long-time admirer of the Chelsea starlet and has rarely missed an opportunity to heap praise upon him.
