Edinson Cavani has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League during this January transfer window — which might be particularly interesting to all of you fantasy football managers out there.
The Uruguayan, who’s currently on the books at Paris Saint-Germain, is widely considered one of the world’s deadliest strikers and is currently the French club’s all-time top scorer.
But in recent weeks he’s struggled to get into their first-team, sparking rumours that he could be seeking a quick exit this month.
Cavani has made just 14 first-team appearances this season, with summer signing Mauro Icardi seemingly ahead of him in the side’s attacking ranks at the moment.
Recent reports from France have claimed he’s grown tired of sitting on PSG’s bench and is desperate to move on during this transfer window, with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, as well as Prem clubs Chelsea, Man United and Spurs, interested.
While Atleti appear to be the favourites to snap him up this month, Chelsea also appear to be very much in the reckoning.
United are considered outsiders along with Spurs, but ruling out either club at this stage would be foolish.
So if he does head to England, what would the long-haired target man bring to the Premier League and Dream Team?
All three of the aforementioned Premier League clubs could do with an extra striker this month, as they each have injury worries in their attacking ranks.
Spurs are missing Harry Kane through injury, Man United could use some extra experience up front, and Chelsea could lose Olivier Giroud over the next couple of days.
Reasonably speaking, Cavani could expect much more football if he moves to England.
According to our friends over at WhoScored.com, Cavani, with just two goals in Ligue 1 so far this season, has an overall rating of just 6.35.
But last season was much more reflective of his usual ability; with 20 appearances, 18 goals and a rating of 7.44.
To put that into some sort of context, Cavani’s rating in 2018/19 would make him the sixth-best player in the Premier League this season, better than the likes of Marcus Rashford (7.37), Jamie Vardy (7.34) and Harry Kane (7.30).
If Cavani does complete a move to the Premier League this month, then you can expect him to be added to Dream Team immediately.
But how much would a player of his standing cost on the game? We’d guess at £4.5m, which puts in the same bracket as Anthony Martial, Raul Jimenez and Gabriel Jesus.
