We’re all feeling the strain this month, and that includes Premier League footballers.
There’s a plethora of players sidelined this weekend through injury — which means you might need to make a change or two to your fantasy football team.
Here we’ve listed all of the major concerns ahead of Game Week 20, including updates on Harry Maguire and Harry Kane, among others.
Earlier in the week, we were told that Maguire could be out of action for a ‘sustained spell’ after suffering a hip injury.
The towering defender is widely regarded as Man United’s best defender and he is popular among Dream Team managers — with nearly 25% of you selecting the Enlgnad centre-back this season — so we were quite concerned by this.
But while it was initially thought he’d definitely miss this weekend’s game against Norwich and possibly even a handful of fixtures beyond that, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told reporters on Friday that there’s a chance he’ll play.
“Harry has a chance for tomorrow,” he said. “We will see how he trains.”
Another big name that could miss the Old Trafford clash between United and Norwich is the Canaries’ main man Pukki.
The Finnish striker was not involved during Thursday morning’s outdoor training session, having also missed their FA Cup win over Preston with hamstring and toe issues.
Considering Maguire’s injury is seemingly not as bad as first reported, Solskjaer suggested that journalists perhaps might have mistaken him for Harry Kane.
Because Kane’s hamstring injury is a bad one; likely keeping him out until April and just two months before Euro 2020 begins.
The Dream Team favourite, who’s got 162 points on the game this season, suffered the injury during Spurs’ defeat at Southampton on New Year’s Day and leaves 30% of you looking for somebody new.
Pulisic missed Chelsea’s win over Nottingham Forest last weekend with an ‘unspecified injury sustained in training’, which Frank Lampard confirmed on Friday to be an adductor injury.
It sounds pretty painful, and it looks as though the American could be out for a few weeks, including Saturday’s game against Burnley.
That’s particularly bad news for many of you, as the 21-year-old has been popular on our game this season.
Paul Pogba & Scott McTominay
Things aren’t great at Man United at the moment, with the Red Devils struggling with their run of fixtures amidst an injury crisis in midfield.
Ole’s preferred pairing of Pogba and McTominay will both miss the duration of January, having each picked up knocks in the latter stages of the festive period.
That means United will rely on Fred and Nemanja Matic for the most part, all the while trying (and most likely failing) to make an extra signing or two.
Moussa Sissoko & Tanguy Ndombele
The New Year’s Day defeat to Southampton really was a disaster for Spurs, as regular midfielder Sissoko also picked up an injury in that match, along with Kane.
Having undergone knee surgery this week, the French midfield is ruled out until April.
Speaking of injured French midfielders…
Ndombele has struggled with various fitness issues since his arrival in the summer and he lasted just 25 minutes against the Saints, and it was later confirmed that he suffered a hip injury.
Mourinho summed it up in his press conference afterwards, saying: “He is always injured. He’s injured, he’s not injured, he plays one match, next week he’s injured again.”
Tom Heaton & Wesley
Admittedly, only 0.3% of you have selected Wesley this season, so news of his season-long injury isn’t quite the disaster for your Dream Team as it is for Aston Villa.
More concerning will be Tom Heaton’s spell on the sidelines, who, like Wesley, suffered knee ligament damage in Villa’s win over Burnley on New Year’s Day and will likely miss the rest of the campaign.
