We’ve been banging this drum for a while.
To win Dream Team Weekender you need to stand out from the crowd and go off piste.
But this weekend’s winner took that to new extremes – and it paid off emphatically.
Ian McDowall bagged the £5k jackpot with a massive total of 95 points, one of the highest scores of the season, with a comfortable eight-point cushion to his nearest rival.
And he owes it all to some really rogue choices.
“Try and chuck some curve balls in there,” he told us, giving some advice to future Weekender players.
“You have to stand out a bit and back yourself.”
Those curveballs Rangers fan Ian was referring to were an all Burnley backline and, do not adjust your screens, Robert Snodgrass.
Or Roberto Snodgrassio as we’ve started calling him in the office.
Joe Hart and Ben Mee clinched clean sheets against Burnley, whilst James Tarkowski went even further with the winning goal and the Star Man award as a result.
Snodgrass delivered too, scoring and picking up Star Man in West Ham’s win over Crystal Palace.
Mo Salah, Eden Hazard and Marcus Rashford did the rest of the damage to ensure Ian won with room to spare.
The 24-year-old added: “I knew I had a good chance after the 3pm kick offs and when I saw Harry Kane wasn’t starting against Leicester I knew I had a really good chance.
“Kane had to score a hat-trick really for me to lose top spot.
“It was one of those weekends where it felt like everything just fell into place!”
Fancy emulating Ian this weekend? There’s another £5k up for grabs and Liverpool v Man United headlines the fixture list.
