Last summer we’d like to rather shamelessly point out that we predicted Mo Salah to be the the one essential pick before the season had even got started.
The Egyptian King, of course, went on to emphatically prove us right, scoring a 412 points and breaking all kinds of Premier League records.
So which player are we tipping as absolutely essential picking this season?
Arise… Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Quite how Arsenal managed to pull off the Aubameyang coup in January – with very little incentive for the rest of the season – remains a brilliant mystery.
The Gabon forward is one of the most proven goal scorers on the planet and hit the ground running straight away after his mega move from Borussia Dortmund.
Aubameyang struck 10 goals and four assists in just 12 Premier League appearances, laughing in the face of the theory that foreign exports take time to adapt to life in England.
And this season we think he’ll be even better.
Why? Well, unlike most elite players, he’s had the summer off to replenish and re-energise without a World Cup to worry about.
Auba has had the luxury of a full pre-season training programme under new forward thinking Arsenal boss Unai Emery.
If he can score 10 in 12 games in his first couple of months in England, just think how many he could rack up over an entire campaign?
We’re talking plenty here, particularly with the Europa League also potential cannon fodder.
With assist king Mesut Ozil and his partner in crime from his Dortmund days Henrikh Mkhitaryan threading through balls, we can really see him scoring for fun.
What’s more, comparatively he’s a real Dream Team bargain.
Considering Harry Kane and Mo Salah are both £8m, Sergio Aguero £6.5m and a number of players priced at £6m, Aubameyang looks fairly cheap.
Get these Gunners in your Dream Team
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – £5.5m
Forward scored ten goals in half a season.
Aaron Ramsey – £4m
Unai Emery vowed to build his team around the midfielder.
Last season only four players across the season averaged a higher points per game than the Arsenal hitman’s 6.6 and we can really see him improving on that.
We got it right with Salah, we’re confident we’ll be right again with Aubameyang.
Ignore him at your peril.
Which injured fantasy football players do you need to be aware of?
or the majority of us we can’t wait for the new Premier League season to come around.
But for some of the biggest names in the top flight the opening day has actually come too soon after picking up injuries over the summer.
Some of these knocks – of differing gravity – may have passed you by, with the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Nick Pope both picking up knocks over the last week or so.
Stay woke, people.
