Virgil van Dijk is already a hit among Liverpool fans, after scoring that winning goal against Everton in Friday night’s FA Cup clash.
And we have a feeling Jurgen Klopp’s new £75 million signing could be a fine addition to your fantasy football team.
Having sold off Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for a staggering £142 million at the weekend, the Reds books are certainly balanced at the moment.
And while we’re sure some of you are musing over how to replace the Brazilian in your Dream Team, we also implore you to consider snapping up van Dijk.
The former Southampton defender was a Dream Team favourite last season, topping the points chart despite missing a good portion of the campaign through injury.
The Dutchman was undoubtedly one of the standout players plying his trade outside of the Premier League’s ‘big six’, which probably explains why a host of top clubs were linked with him over the last year or so – including Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
And having completed his dream move to Anfield, VVD will be more than ready to kick on with his season.
The Reds have been in brilliant form lately, often blowing away their opposition with their fast-paced, free-flowing attacking football.
You’ve already heard enough about the brilliance of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and fantasy football star Mohamed Salah this season.
But with all of their attacking pedigree, Klopp’s side have really suffered at the back, conceding sloppy goals that have cost them in important games – including in the Champions League against Sevilla and their 4-1 mauling by Tottenham at Wembley.
It’s not really surprising that nearly 30,000 Dream Team managers transferred in van Dijk ahead of the weekend’s action.
And why not?
At £3.5m, he’s considerably affordable at the moment.
In fact, he’s far cheaper than the likes of Shkodran Mustafi (£6.2m), Phil Jones (£5.5m) and Antonio Rudger (£5.9m).
But unlike this lot, we know that van Dijk will likely play every minute of every game in Liverpool’s defence – if he remains fit.
If you’re thinking of picking van Dijk for your Dream Team this month – then do it fast.
If the centre-back continues to deliver the goods for his new club, we reckon his price could quickly rise.
