The 25-year-old labourer scooped the sweet £20k prize for Game Week 8.

We spoke to him to get his hot tips for winning the game and find out what the prize means to him.

While it sounds straightforward, to pick seven players with no price or club limits and score the most points, there is undoubtedly a lot of skill and a splash of luck involved in winning the weekly prize.

We asked Nikolai for his secret tip to Weekender success and the answer is revealing for all you aspiring fantasy managers.

“I always look at the form and the fixtures and go with what I think is right,” Nikolai begins. “But I will always look at the Dream Team suggestions.”

Sage advice Nikolai, very sage.

“One of them was Tammy Abraham of Swansea. It seemed a good idea to put him in the team.

“He was fantastic and he ended up as my best-scoring player.”

While it seems a no-brainer to pick the Premier League’s top players every weekend, Nikolai advises to look for value lower down the league.

“I do have my favourites – Harry Kane, Phillipe Coutinho and Leroy Sane – but you can’t pick them every week. It depends who they are playing,” he says.

“Sometimes the top players don’t fire.”

The Londoner was proved right with his team selection, combining a mix of top end players with some lesser knowns.

He plumped for Swansea’s Lukasz Fabianski in goal, a defence of Federico Fernandez and Martin Olsson, City’s tyros Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling took the midfield berths and he put Gabriel Jesus and Tammy Abraham up front.

Collecting £20k is huge for anyone but it will mean a lot more to Nikolai’s life due to a forthcoming operation.

Nikolai is set to undergo an eye operation in December which will put him out of work for three months.

Luckily, with his winnings from clinching the Weekender prize, he can rest easy knowing that he has a kitty to see him through that period.

That’s why we do it.
