It’s perhaps testament to the unpredictability of the Premier League that fantasy football has been a tricky challenge to master this season.
Sure, Harry Kane sitting pretty at the top of the player points rankings won’t surprise that many.
But even Kane has endured barren spells, especially when you consider he failed to score throughout August (again) and hasn’t found the net for Tottenham since October 22.
His and the inconsistencies of other standout performers has made deciding on your transfers this season altogether more difficult.
And, when you look at the statistics for the most popular – or most transferred in – player each Game Week, it seems a frustratingly spooky curse is emerging.
In fact, only on one instance has the most popular player reached the double figures mark for points in that Game Week.
That, of all people, was West Brom’s Ahmed Hegazi and it happened way back in August.
Let’s take a closer inspection:
Game Week 1: Kevin De Bruyne – 3 points
Game Week 2: Ahmed Hegazi – 13 points
Game Week 3: Ahmed Hegazi – 0 points
Game Week 4: Roberto Firmino – 0 points
Game Week 5: Kevin De Bruyne – 5 points
Game Week 6: Sergio Aguero – 7 points
Game Week 7: Alvaro Morata – 0 points
Game Week 8: Harry Kane – 0 points
Game Week 9: Raheem Sterling – 0 points
Game Week 10: Sergio Aguero – 8 points
Game Week 11: Sergio Aguero – 8 points
So of the 11 Game Weeks played so far, five of the most transferred in players have produced a big fat zero as a reward for that grand faith.
Nada. Zilch. Nul points.
But what about this week – Game Week 12 – after the doom and gloom of an international break that at one point produced SEVEN successive 0-0 draws?
Well the honour of most transferred in player falls to Alvaro Morata again so far this week, who just pips Sergio Aguero to the accolade.
Can the Chelsea striker buck the trend and banish the curse?
TIP OF THE WEEKEND:
Sun Bets, as always, are graciously rewarding any new customer to who stakes £5 with a £20 bet. Just like that.
So what’s the best way to use that £20?
Well the North London derby gets a mouthwatering weekend of European club football underway on Saturday lunchtime, and Harry Kane loves a goal against Arsenal.
The Spurs hitman has scored in all five of his derby appearances and six times in total, so I like the look of Kane, Gabriel Jesus, Edin Dzeko and Dries Mertens all to score anytime over Saturday’s games at a very tidy 10/1.
