Anyway, without further ado, here’s Shearer explaining his player selections as he bids to Tackle Wrighty:
“Coming back from the international break is always a bit of a lottery for some players,” says Shearer.
“You might have travelled halfway around the world to play 10 minutes, or you might have been left at home for over a week, training with just a couple of team-mates.
“That’s what makes this weekend’s Premier League fixtures tricky to choose from.
“Manchester City host Liverpool in the big one, Tottenham away at Everton and Manchester United travelling to Stoke means picking my Dream Team Weekender has been tricky.
“I’ve been told that it’s not always the obvious choices that will win the big prizes, so don’t be so quick to dismiss some of the following names…”
Goalkeeper: David De Gea
“The stats so far speak for themselves – Manchester United have played three and conceded none in the Premier League.
“De Gea hasn’t had a great deal to do so far, but I expect United will have too much for Stoke so I’m hoping for another clean sheet for De Gea.”
“It might not be a 4-0 hammering that they’ve dealt out twice already this season, but I think another clean sheet will be on its way.”
Defenders: Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia
“My Dream Team Weekender style is picking a block of defence and goalkeeper from the same team – it’s a bit like putting all my eggs in one basket but I’ll stick with it.
“Eric Bailly’s started off the season tremendously for Jose Mourinho’s side, and he’s picked up 25 points on Dream Team already, so he’s probably a safe bet for any team.
“He’s joined by Antonio Valencia who has been very good at right back.”
Midfielders: Renato Sanches and Robbie Brady
“What a deadline day signing Renato Sanches could turn out to be for Swansea.
“Paul Clement’s has used his contacts well with his former club by bringing the Bayern Munich man in on loan, and if Sanches can get motivated and fulfil even half of his potential at the Swans, he could be a very good season.
“This might seem like one of the slightly leftfield selections in my Dream Team Weekender side, but Burnley’s Robbie Brady has performed really well this season.
“He’s scored 27 points so far on Dream Team and Burnley have got Crystal Palace at home on Sunday, so hopefully he can pick up some big numbers again against Frank de Boer’s struggling side.”
Strikers: Romelu Lukaku and Richarlison
“Now we’re getting into the proper stuff – the strikers.
“Romelu Lukaku is a must-pick for any Dream Team player at the moment.
“He’s started off the season phenomenally and he had a good time of it on the international break, scoring four goals in two matches for Belgium.
“He’s straight in my team, and I expect him to do the business again this weekend.
“I’ve also liked what I’ve seen from the new Watford man Richarlison so far in the Premier League.
“Playing as a secondary striker on the left he has helped the Hornets get to seventh in the table in the early stages.
“He’s a rangy, quick Brazilian with an eye for goal, and with Watford away at Southampton, he could be the difference.”
