So how should you go about mastering Weekender?
Fantasy football tips: How to get ahead of your mates
1 Pick a defensive unit from one club
You can only pick one formation in Weekender: a 1-2-2-2 format.
Temptation to pick a couple of goalscoring defenders at the back is obviously high, but we’d advise you to go for a goalkeeper and defensive duo from the same club.
Well the chances of one club keeping a clean sheet is obviously much higher than multiple clubs doing so.
Should all three secureyou clean sheets that provides a really solid base of points to build on before your attacking players (hopefully) bag all the goals and assists.
2 Pick a joker in the pack
Selecting only seven players every week obviously increases the chances of managers picking very similar sides.
That means to stand out from the crowd you need a joker in the pack or a wildcard who is going to elevate you from the masses.
The most popular players – Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane, Alexis Sanchez and co. – are shoo-ins yes but you need at least one player who is a bit of a gamble.
Well last season the likes of Josh King and Nathan Redmond proved real hidden gems and could make the difference between an average score and pocketing that sizeable jackpot.
3 Get your team in early
It’s important to act fast when getting your Weekender team in because when the prizepot is decided at the end of every weekend, timing comes into the equation.
That’s because it’s highly likely that the highest points scored will be a tie, particularly if people are picking the same players.
In this scenario, the jackpot goes to the manager who entered their team first – as that’s the only fair differential.
You’re taking a risk yes, but our advice would be get your Weekender team in on the Monday well in advance.
