Some thing’s in life are certain; death, taxes and Harry Kane failing to score in August/Chelsea beating Spurs/Spurs bottling it at Wembley.
Honestly, take your pick.
It was not Tottenham’s day, as Marcos Alonso struck twice for Chelsea as the Blues secured a much-needed three points to kick-start their Premier League title defence.
Spurs went into the game against their bitter London rivals as slight-favourites, with their ‘home’ advantage coupled with Chelsea’s poor performance against Burnley last week and the lack of Gary Cahill, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard.
Not to mention the AWOL Diego Costa.
But who needs wantaway Spanish internationals when you’ve got Alonso?
The left wing-back scored a stunning free-kick in the first half to give Chelsea a deserved lead.
And the golden-haired boy scored the winner for Antonio Conte’s side on the 88th minute, after Spurs thought they’d stolen a point thanks to Michy Batshuayi’s quite sensational own goal only minutes before.
So, crisis-averted for another week, right lads?
