Congratulations are in order — you’ve made it through the long, desolate, football-less summer.
The Premier League returns on Friday night and with it comes the roaring comeback of Dream Team fantasy football.
Arsenal v Leicester’s Friday night kick-off has the potential to upset a few managers who usually leave submitting their team until the last minute.
It is extremely wise to pick a team now if you haven’t already — even if it’s just a first draft.
While it goes without saying that your knowledge is superior to those idiots you call your mates, you may be curious as to what other managers have been up to so far.
We’re here to tell you that the vast majority of fantasy football gaffers have overlooked two potential BIG scorers.
They may have had an unconvincing pre-season but the last time competitive football was in town it was Chelsea who came out as top dogs.
The Blues’ front three of Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Pedro did the damage and racked up a whopping 616 points between them.
Obviously lovable rogue Costa won’t feature this coming campaign but the other two are still in the ranks and will surely terrorise defences once again.
So why is nobody picking Pedro?
The Spanish winger/forward is currently only in 1.8% of teams.
Two pre-season clashes against Arsenal left Pedro with a broken face and the shame of a red card but he’ll still be available for Chelsea’s opener against Burnley on Saturday.
His dismissal in the Community Shield doesn’t carry over to the Premier League and a robust face mask is taking care of the money-maker.
There’s another Chelsea forward you should consider as well.
The permanently happy Belgian is only in 1.9% of teams currently registered.
Yes, Alvaro Morata is the new No9 but his position in the starting line-up is far from secure.
Batshuayi’s has been Chelsea’s best player during pre-season, carrying on his red hot form the end of last term.
It’s completely unfair to judge Morata on one penalty miss in the Community Shield but in terms of match sharpness, Batshuayi looks a better candidate to lead the line in the opening weeks.
The champions can’t afford a lackadaisical start to their title defence and let’s not forget, Batshuayi is a £33million forward in his own right.
Dream Team 2017/18
- Absolutely free to play for all players
- £750,000 prize pot
- Pick 11 players with a budget of £50m
- Dream Team Weekender and Dream Team Europe also available to play
We understand your hesitancy given the uncertainty over Antonio Conte’s starting line-up.
It’s not out of the question that both Pedro and Batshuayi will start on the bench on Saturday with Willian and Morata in the XI but then again they may start and could easily take Burnley apart and you could be only one not to miss out on a big chunk of points.
It’s a risk worth considering given their prices as well — Pedro (£4m) and Batshuayi (£3m).
Come on, at least one of the champions’ forwards must be worth a punt?
