Premier League fantasy football: The 5 best forwards this season

We look back at the red hot strikers who hoarded points for fun this season as Diego Costa misses out

The end of the football season has hit us like an intercontinental train.

Even more worrying is the conclusion of the fantasy football campaign for another year.

Here we continue our review of the best 2016/17 Dream Team performers with a look at the top five point-scoring forwards.

1 Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal) – 332 points

Arsenal fans will be praying they keep hold of this man… even the atheists

At the time of writing the Gunners’ Chilean superstar is the only player to have racked up over 300 points.

He’s also the only one of the Premier League’s top scorers to have provided ten assists for his team-mates.

Clinical and selfless; what a combination.

His omission from the PFA Team of the Season looks increasingly harsh.

2 Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Man United) – 290 points

Come on Zlatan, treat us to another season

The enigmatic Swede looked set to lead the Dream Team charts until he suffered a horrific knee injury in the Europa League.

Zlatan bolstered his tally by running riot in the cup competitions as well as netting a very respectable 17 goals in the league.

Those who gambled on his inclusion from the start of the season were handsomely rewarded.

3 Sergio Aguero (Man City) – 287 points

Business as usual for this class act

Just the 31 goals in all competitions for Man City’s No10 this season.

Eight goals in as many Champions League games led to a spike in popularity and despite his customary injury troubles (as well as hot competition from Gabriel Jesus) he has once again proven himself to be one of Europe’s best finishers.

Surely Dream Team’s most consistent performer in recent years?

4 Harry Kane (Spurs) – 242 points

This ‘one-season wonder’ has scored 68 Premier League goals in the last three seasons

Remember when people thought he was a one-season wonder?

Kane’s third consecutive season of 20+ goals in the Premier League has once again made him one of Dream Team’s must-have players when fit.

Take away his injuries and he would certainly have retained the Golden Boot.

UPDATE: He almost definitely will retain the Golden Boot anyway after four goals against Leicester. Pure class

5 Romelu Lukaku (Everton) – 239 points

Lukaku could set his former club back as much as £70million

Proof that forwards outside the ‘big clubs’ care worth considering

With one game to play the Toffees’ hulking target man is the leading scorer in the Premier League with 24 goals to his name.

Early exits in both domestic cups and no European football meant he didn’t have as many games in which to keep up with the likes of Sanchez and Ibrahimovic.

Everton will be lucky to keep hold of him in the summer but the more pressing issue is will you select him for your Dream Team next season?

Can’t wait for next season? Here’s everything you need to know about the Dream Team game – which will be back and better than ever in 2017/18.
