Manchester City moved back into third in the Premier League after a narrow win over now deposed champions Leicester following Chelsea’s title triumph on Friday night.
David Silva and a penalty from Gabriel Jesus had put City well in control of proceedings but a beautiful finish from Shinji Okazaki halved the arrears.
The Foxes then blew their chance to equalise in bizarre circumstances when Riyad Mahrez’s penalty was correctly ruled out by referee Bobby Madeley after he slipped and connected with the ball twice before it found the net.
An entertaining clash also threatened to boil over when Fernandinho, who has been sent off three times this season in all competitions, planted a hasty looking elbow on Marc Albrighton.
Despite Albrighton emerging with a contender for shiner of the season, Madeley didn’t spot the altercation:
Should the Brazilian have seen red?
