Arsenal result sends Man United tumbling back down to their rightful place

Jose Mourinho's side are back down to sixth place after the Gunners' win over Southamtpon

Some thing’s are just meant to be.

And this season, Manchester United occupying sixth place in the Premier League table is fairly cut and dry.

Jose Mourinho’s side occupied sixth place for an incredible 16 consecutive games earlier this season, before finally overtaking Arsenal in March.

But having lost to the Gunners at the weekend, and with Arsene Wenger’s side winning against Southampton this evening, back down they went.

At least it gives this guy something to smirk about.

Arsenal and United are scrapping with Man City and Liverpool for the final Champions League spot, with Arsenal now three points behind fourth place City with three games of the season remaining.

Arsenal fans will now be desperate to finish in their fabled top four position, while Mourinho will surely now put all of his Champions League hopes into winning the Europa League this season.

The Red Devils are on the brink of reaching the competition’s final after beating Celta Vigo 1-0 in the first leg of their semi-final clash last week.

They head to Old Trafford on Thursday for the second leg.

Meanwhile, what’s the betting Arsenal pull off a typical Arsenal end-of-season surge and pip fourth place?

We wouldn’t write it off.

At least they can’t finish above Tottenham.

As you were, lads.
