Pep Guardiola will turn to Shaun Goater, Sun Jihai and Oasis as he looks to navigate a nine-goal first-leg advantage against Burton Albion in the EFL Cup semi-final.
Shaun Goater hung up his boots in 2010 after finishing a spell with North Village Rams, while Sun Jihai was last seen playing for Beijing Renhe three years ago.
Oasis split in 2009 after a backstage fight.
Lee Satchell, an unofficial source at Man City who also fronts an Oasis tribute band in his spare time, explained: “Pep’s taking this game very seriously. He knows that anything could happen in 90 minutes.
“The Goat has scored more City goals than Leroy Sane, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva combined, so anyone that thinks bringing him out of retirement is disrespectful needs to have a look at themselves.
“Sun Jihai is in the English Football Hall of Fame. They don’t let any Tom, Dick or Harry in there, clearly. He was tearing the Chinese Super League apart before it was cool.
“The Gallagher brothers are better at football than people give them credit for. Liam had a trial at Fulham when he was younger, and Noel would have made it if he didn’t have dodgy knees.
“They’ll provide the necessary aggression at centre-back to deal with Burton’s aerial threat. They are a bit unpredictable sometimes but you’ve just got to roll with it.
“The pace has gone slightly but luckily Burton don’t have anyone with supersonic speed up front.
“Pep’s also going to give Christian Negouai a chance in midfield. When he heard that he’s the only player to get sent off on their one and only Premier League appearance he felt bad for the lad. He can’t be any worse than Eliaquim Mangala.”
