Twelve young footballers who were rescued from a Thai cave have turned down the chance to visit Old Trafford as they’ve already ‘been through enough’.
The boys from the Wild Boar football team, aged 11 to 16, were invited to watch a Man United game next season.
They were rescued by a team of 19 divers across three different operations, with the last of the boys coming out on Tuesday.
Lee Satchell, unofficial spokesperson for Wild Boar FC, said: “We really appreciate the invite. For a club of United’s size to reach out to us is really touching.
“But there’s not a chance we’re taking them up on the offer. Did you see United play last season? We couldn’t do that to the boys.
“It’s one thing being stuck in a cave for 17 days, it’s another seeing Marcus Rashford tucked in at right-back against Huddersfield Town.
“The most technical English player of his generation stuck at right-back. Traumatising.
“How are my meant to explain Anthony Martial sitting on the bench when United are crying out for creativity?
“Or Marouane Fellaini playing as no.10 instead of Juan Mata? It will all just end in tears.
“So thanks, but no thanks United. We’re going to chance our arm at Man City instead.”
