The royal baby will be named John Carew, an unofficial source revealed.
The baby boy, who is fifth in line to the throne, was born on 23 April 2018 weighing 8lbs 7oz.
Bookies had seen most of the money come on the name Arthur, but Prince William and Kate Middleton went for a left-field pick.
An unofficial royal source, Lee Satchell, explained: “It’s well known that Prince William is a massive Aston Villa fan who attends at least one game a season.
“He’s always said that his favourite season was the 2007/08 campaign when Martin O’Neill masterminded a 6th place finish in the league.
“Gareth Barry and Nigel Reo-Coker were the best midfielders in England, Ashley Young was the second-coming of Diego Maradona and Gabriel Agbonlahor couldn’t be stopped.
“But John Carew was Will’s favourite player.
“He scored 13 goals in 33 games, could leap like a salmon and was so prolific that he kept Marlon Harewood out of the side.
“When you look at it logically it’s no surprise that the royal baby has been called John Carew. The clues were all there.
“Apparently the queen approves, although she was pushing for it to be called Olof Mellberg as she’s more of a fan of the defensive side of the game.”
