Chelsea have been using Football Manager 2018 to scout transfer targets, an unofficial club insider revealed.
Lee Satchell, who is sometimes seen lurking around the edges of Chelsea’s Cobham Training Centre, insists the game has been used to identify potential transfers.
However, unbeknown to Antonio Conte, a prankster at the club has changed the settings which has resulted in the likes of Peter Crouch being targeted.
Satchell said: “It was all going smoothly at first.
“Whenever Conte wanted to sign a player he would just load up Football Manager, look at his scouting list and go from there.
“It worked for N’Golo Kante, Marcos Alonso, Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and all those lads.
“But one day a prankster got onto Conte’s laptop and changed the settings on his computer.
“Conte didn’t have a clue.
“The prankster set his scouting targets to ‘England only’.
“But Conte carried on using Football Manager, signing Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater.
“The the prankster changed the settings AGAIN. He made it so only players with 20 for heading and jumping showed up.
“Conte still ploughed on, putting in bids for Andy Carroll and Fernando Llorente.
“Then, for one last gag, he set the age range to over-35s. He was sure he was going to get caught, or Conte was going to clock on.
“But then he woke up to find Chelsea had bid for Crouch. He couldn’t believe it.
“He feels a bit bad now.”
