England’s 2018 World Cup squad has been leaked a full seven months before the tournament in Russia.
The major surprise is that not a single midfielder or attacker has been included in the squad.
Instead, Gareth Southgate has decided to call up 23 defenders, with a further 7 defenders on standby.
An unofficial insider, Lee Satchell, explained: “The rumours are true. Gareth is taking 23 defenders to Russia.
“He would have taken 23 central-defenders if he could but that would have included calling Chris Smalling back into the squad.
“So yeah, 23 defenders. A handful of centre-backs with a couple of full-backs thrown in for good measure.
“Gareth saw the 0-0 draws against Germany and Brazil and he had a vision. He called me on the night of the Brazil draw and said he knew how to win the World Cup with England.
“Harry Maguire up front with Eric Dier in the no.10 role.
“Those two are the only players allowed to cross the halfway line, everyone else has to stay in England’s half.
“He wants to play for 0-0 and then nick a goal from a set-piece.
“Marcus Rashford, Dele Alli and Raheem Sterling will all be left at home.
“Harry Kane will only get the nod if he agrees to play centre-back, and the only reason he’s got the call up is so he can take corners and penalties.”
