Steven Pienaar has been forced to change number after persistent calling by David Moyes.
The former South African international midfielder is now seeing out his playing days at domestic side Bidvest Wits FC.
But persistent calls from Moyes and texts asking to ‘get the band back together’ have left him with no option but to switch phones.
An unofficial source, Lee Satchell, said: “Steven’s phone would go off at all times of the day and night.
“At first it was quite friendly, with the two talking about the good old days. Then the conversation would turn to Sunderland and it would all get a bit teary.
“Then Moyes would start begging Pienaar to come back and play for him at West Ham.
“No matter how many times Pienaar told him he was happy in South Africa, Moyes wouldn’t stop.
“He’d promise to sign Victor Anichebe to protect him if it all started going wrong. And Darron Gibson as well to do the running for him.
“Then Moyes would just start shouting Marouane Fellaini’s name repeatedly before hanging up. But before you’d know it he’d be ringing again.”
