A 42-year-old insomniac fell asleep for the first time in seven years last night while watching England v Slovenia.
Lee Satchell, from West Heath, Birmingham, has struggled with the condition for his entire life but credits England’s dismal performance for finally getting some kip.
Satchell lasted 85 minutes before drifting off for a long overdue sleep.
Satchell said: “I made it all the way through to the 85th minute, and sleep wasn’t in my thoughts.
“I can never sleep when Clive Tyldesley is shrieking in commentary, no matter how much Glen Hoddle mumbles on nonsensically.
“But then Gareth Southgate brought Michael Keane on for Raheem Sterling in the 85th minute. The next thing I knew it was nine in the morning and I’d been asleep for 12 hours.
“I really wasn’t expecting it.
“The last time I fell asleep was the exact moment Emile Heskey tried to do those step-overs against Algeria at the 2010 World Cup.
“I was out like a lamp after that.
“Everyone has a go at England but I can’t tell you how nice it is to watch them play. How else would I get any sleep?
“Jordan Henderson really is a hero among insomniacs. All that sideways passing.
“I’m getting sleepy just thinking abou…”
