Bayern Munich’s plan to finish third in their Champions League group, thereby dropping into the Europa League, continued with a loss to PSG.
Celtic’s win against Anderlecht means the only thing keeping Bayern from the third spot is goal difference.
Bayern tried to make it as easy as possible for PSG to score goals by leaving Mats Hummels and Rafinha on the bench but they still only managed to concede three times.
Their plan not to score was more successful, helped by the fact both Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben were benched.
An unofficial source, speaking through translator Lee Satchell, explained: “Arsenal thought they were safe in the Europa League.
“But they won’t shake Bayern off that easily. You can run, but you can’t hide from a crushing 10-2 aggregate defeat.
“They’ll do whatever it takes, even if that means continuously benching their best attacking players and playing a Manuel Almunia-impersonator in goal.
“It also gives Bayern’s players another chance to personally convince Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to join them in the summer.
“Alexis was sold on the idea as soon as they told him about all they dog parks they’ve got in Munich.”
