Romelu Lukaku is now officially a Guinness World Record holder.
The new Man United forward had his first touch weighed by adjudicators who were able to confirm that it is the heaviest known to mankind.
24-year-old Lukaku’s touch weighed in at just over 640kg, making it slightly heavier than American Jon Brower Minnoch – history’s heaviest ever human.
The prestigious event took place in front of the world’s media although there was some initial confusion when the Irish Herald reporter thought he had accidentally turned up to a Stormzy gig.
Guinness World Record representative, Lee Satchell, said: “Romelu should be immensely proud of his achievement.
“Everyone knows that his touch is heavy but I don’t think anyone expected it to break the record, it must have got heavier almost overnight.
“The logistics were a bit of a nightmare at first, the team struggled to lift it onto the scales. But once we got the forklift involved everything went fairly smoothly.
“I was particularly impressed with Rom’s ambition as well.
“After breaking the record he Googled ‘heaviest known object’ and now he’s set on making his touch heavier than some super massive black hole millions of light years away. That’ll take some doing but he’s certainly got it in him.”
