Former Man City man wrongly arrested for ‘beating up’ club owner

Well, well, well.

Remember Elano?

The ex-Manchester City man spent the night in a cell in December for reportedly assaulting the owner of FC Goa.

After Elano’s side Chennaiyin FC beat Goa in the Indian Super League final a brawl broke out on the pitch.

Elano was initially arrested for his role in the fracas, but new video evidence has come to light which shows the Brazilian had no physical involvement whatsoever.

Below are a few stills from the incident, with Elano circled and seen walking away from the scuffle in the second image:

Rahul Mehrez, a renowned sports lawyer, suggests the new footage shows there was no aggression on Elano’s part.

He said: “Surely there is no wrongful restraint from Elano’s side. Surely there is no aggression from his side.

“If at all, people are pushing him, slapping him and man handling Elano. I didn’t see anything from Elano in your footage unless there are other clinching evidence with the police.”

Elano played 62 times in the Premier League for City between 2007 and 2009.
