Bayern Munich have been crowned 2016/17 Bundesliga champions.
Bayern have been handed next season’s title by default after their top-flight rivals agreed there was little point trying to compete with the Bavarian powerhouse anymore.
The select committee of the remaining Bundesliga clubs, chaired by representatives from Dortmund, unanimously decided next season’s campaign was indeed pointless after Bayern continued to sign all of their best players.
A Dortmund spokesperson said: “We’ve decided to throw in the towel already.
“We thought we’d spare our fans any false hope they might have retained of actually winning the title.
“Congratulations to Bayern, they’re worthy winners.”
Hummels expressed his delight on a day of double celebration for the German defender.
“I came here to win titles ultimately,” he said.
“So to win one within hours of joining is really cool.”
Bayern have also announced a deal which sees Dortmund become their first-team scouts for the next four seasons.
