Arsenal have today announced the club’s players will pay a special tribute to Mesut Ozil in their Boxing Day game against West Brom.
The north London club have revealed every member of the starting XI will wear ‘Ozil number 10’ shirts back to front after the German midfielder went missing against Manchester City on Sunday.
The idea came about after City players carried out a similar gesture to Ozil’s German team-mate Ilkay Gundogan, who was ruled out for the season in midweek through injury.
A search party was launched around 6pm on Sunday looking into Ozil’s anonymity for the duration of City’s 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.
Club spokesperson Lee Satchell said: “We feel it’s a pretty fitting gesture to Mesut.
“What the City lads did for Gundogan really touched us and, with us suffering a similar tragedy, we thought we’d followed suit.
“Nobody has heard from the lad for 24 hours or so now so. Apparently Alexis Sanchez has already ordered a one way ticket to Shanghai in January.”
Some Gunners fans are growing increasingly worried about of his whereabouts, while others aren’t as concerned as they believe he has a history of disappearing when it really matters.
