Mike Phelan makes saddest punditry appearance of all time just a week after Hull sacking

Sky Sports have a habit of doing this.

With the build up to Tuesday night’s League Cup semi-final first leg between Manchester United and Hull underway, TV anchor Simon Thomas introduced the programme.

Normal procedure.

But his guests more than raised a few eyebrows.

Thomas was joined by Phil Neville and Mike Phelan – exactly a week after the latter was harshly sacked by Hull following a dodgy run of results.



With contractual obligations stressed straight away, Phelan was restricted in terms of what he could say about the matter.

He was then made to discuss his successor Marco Silva’s CV ahead of his second game in charge of the Tigers.


He even said: “Sitting in this chair is disappointing, but it’s the only way you can get a ticket.”

Phelan, of course, spent many successful years as Sir Alex Ferguson’s deputy at Manchester United before bravely taking the Hull job last summer despite their dire situation.
