Claude Makelele has joined Premier League strugglers Swansea City as assistant to new head coach Paul Clement.
The 43-year-old has signed a deal until the end of the season to help Clement, who he worked with during his playing days at Chelsea and as a coach with Paris Saint-Germain.
The Swans are currently 19th in the Premier League, having gained just 15 points in their opening 20 matches.
Makelele has vast Premier League experience, playing 144 times in England’s top tier for Chelsea between 2003 and 2008, and left his legacy on the league with his defensive central midfield role occasionally being dubbed the ‘Makelele role’.
He moved to the Blues from Real Madrid before moving to French giants Paris Saint-Germain after his spell at Chelsea.
He will be alongside Paul Clement in the dugout for the Swans’ Premier League match against Arsenal, and his arrival at the Liberty Stadium has seen fans abuzz about the return of a Premier League legend.
