If you told Manchester United fans at the start of the season that Antonio Valencia would turn into one of their star performers at right-back, they’d have laughed you out of town.
But that’s just how the campaign has materialised, with the winger-turned-full-back proving to be one of Jose Mourinho’s go-to men and regularly one of the first on his teamsheet.
Valencia, as a result of his brilliant form, penned a new deal at United until 2018, signifying perhaps Mourinho’s happiness with his right-back position.
But that won’t stop the usual transfer rumours linking the club with new players.
And PSG right back Thomas Meunier’s recent comments may put the cat amongst the pigeons a bit.
The Belgian international, who excelled against Barcelona on Tuesday night and got an assist in the 4-0 win, has admitted he is a United fan and wants to play in the Premier League one day.
Meunier, in an interview with Belgian news outlet DH, said: “I’ve always said that one day, I would like to play in the Premier League.
“I’m very happy in Paris and if I finish my career there, it won’t be a disappointment, far from it. But, if one day, I had to leave Paris, why not?
“On the other side of the Channel, there are the stadiums, the fans, and I’ve never hidden that I’m a big fan of Manchester United, which remains, in my eyes, the real reference in the world of football.”
Meunier has made 23 appearances for PSG in all competitions this season and is rapidly becoming one of the best right-backs in world football.
