Why do Man City fans boo the UEFA Champions League anthem?

Man City fans, not for the first time, booed the Champions League anthem as it blasted out before tonight’s Celtic game.

But why are City fans so angry? Do they just really dislike Handel’s Zadok the Priest?

It all stems from the £49million fine City were slapped with in 2013 due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

The club also saw their Champions League squad cut from 25 players to 21, which made life awkward for then boss Manuel Pellegrini.

In order to fit all their stars into the squad City were forced to sell Spaniard Alvaro Negredo to Valencia, something Pellegrini admitted was forced upon him.

Matters were further compounded when 650 CSKA Moscow fans managed to sneak into a behind closed doors game despite being handed a blanket ban for racism.

UEFA threatened to fine City for the booing but no action was taken last November.

Will the suits continue to be lenient? Only time will tell.
