Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique don’t like each other.
But their true professionalism sees the Spain duo put their Real Madrid and Barcelona differences aside when representing their country.
And it appears Pique has been learning from his centre-back partner if his tackling against Morocco has anything to go by.
In the early stages a poor pass from Dani Carvajal put Pique in a sticky situation.
The Barcelona defender had a race on with Morocco striker Khalid Boutaib in a proper fifty fifty battle.
But instead of approaching the situation with caution, Pique launched himself into a ridiculous two-footed lunge.
He made very little contact with Boutaib, but the Morocco striker was left in a heap on the floor.
The referee was nonplussed by the situation despite understandable berating from Boutaib’s team-mates who were desperate for the official to consult VAR.
The replays didn’t do Pique any favours at all so he was certainly fortunate the referee opted not to get a second look.
Did his reputation proceed him slightly? And if it was Ramos – a man who lives and breathes red cards – would the outcome have been different?
