For three years, eleven months and two weeks, we’ve told ourselves not to be too hopeful about England’s chances at the World Cup.

But now here we are, on the eve of the tournament, and once again optimism has overwhelmed us.

We’ve clipped the St George’s flags to our car windows and reserved a table for 20 at our local for the Tunisia game.

All that’s left to do is to buy a retro shirt capable of withstanding a torrent of nervous sweat.
